What a permit covers
A gorilla permit buys you one strictly timed hour with a habituated gorilla family, plus the guides, trackers and armed rangers who get you there. It does not include transport, accommodation or park transfers, which your operator arranges separately.

Uganda's permit is USD 800 and Rwanda's is USD 1,500. Both fund conservation and the communities around the parks. Uganda offers better value and a wilder trek; Rwanda offers easier access and shorter drives from the capital.
When to book
